Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does this work?

A: If you live with in our delivery area we will drop your fish off at your house before 5 pm on your selected delivery day – just leave out an empty cooler. If you live outside the area we currently deliver to we will send your fish overnight using FedEx.

Traditional fish markets can only do so much. No matter how efficiently they get their fish from vendors, they still have to anticipate what you will want, and stock it as inventory in the hopes you will come in and buy it. Because you order from us the day before it is delivered, we can pick fish as we take it off the boat and bring it to you that day. The rest of the catch can go along through the traditional chain of supply.

Q: How much is shipping and are there any other fees or taxes?

A: If you are within our delivery range then delivery to your door $1.00. If we do not deliver to your area YET, then we will FedEx your fish. FedEx shipping charges will be calculated automatically during checkout.

Q: How does the raw, unfrozen seafood stay cool?

A: If we deliver it to you it will be on ice and if your fish is shipped it will be cooled using a frozen pack.

Q: What is a portion?

A: We consider a portion to be a freshly cut piece of fish that would feed one average adult. It is meant to resemble the same portion you would receive at a restaurant. Your seafood comes perfectly ready to apply your favorite recipe without any excessive handling. Our experienced fish cutters do all that work for you.

Q: How is Red's Best my seafood solution?

A: Red's Best solves two problems. 1) people do not have access to the fish that is caught in their own back yards, right as it comes out of the water 2) 75% of the fish consumed in the USA is at restaurants.

Q: How long will fresh, raw fish hold in my fridge?

A: myth that we intend to prove wrong is that seafood must be consumed the day it is purchased. How much time has passed since the catch? When our families catch fish and put it in the refrigerator, it lasts over a week. We can re-create that for you. Fish delivered to your home will last up to 4 days in the refrigerator and fish delivered FedEx will last 3. For maximum shelf-life, put your portions in a bowl of ice and change the ice as it melts.

Q: How is the fresh seafood packaged for delivery?

A: Each portion will be delivered on ice in a tamper-evident resealable bag. The bag is a synthetic plastic made of recycled materials in a low energy manufacturing process, and the bag is recyclable. The seafood will be delivered on ice and you can store it in your fridge just in the bags or on ice if you intend on keeping it for a few days.

Q: What if I'm not a FedEx user and I forget to leave a cooler for my driver?

A: No problem. All of our drivers bring along spare coolers that we can loan to you until the next delivery.

Q: Do I get a lower price if people who live near me also get their seafood this way?

A: Of course. Our goal is to feed entire neighborhoods seafood harvested by the fishermen most local to them. This creates discounts for all and local jobs; contact us to find out how to get work and help your neighbors eat well.

Q: How does Red's Best process fish for retail customers?

A: When the local fishermen come to dock at the end of the day we are waiting there with our trucks. We consolidate the catch at processing facilities that meet all federal health and environmental standards. Red’s Best Home Delivery customers access this fish before it is shipped, on a first come first serve basis. When the fish comes off the boat, a limited amount will become available to the general customer. When it is sold out, it is sold out.

Q: Why support your local fishermen?

A: Local small boat fishermen are facing great pressure from many angles. These are the men and women who make the tiny fishing ports along the American coasts so special. Many come from generations of men and women who have made a living harvesting the ocean.

Q: Can I freeze my seafood if I am not going to eat it within 4 days?

A: Yes, you can put your seafood (no live shellfish including lobster). The bag your seafood is delivered in will also serve as a freezer bag.

Q: What is the story behind the Red's Best bird mark?

A: The cormorant brings luck to fishermen all over the world. The bird's streamlined style of catching exactly what it dives for inspires the Red's Best spirit.
